Celebrity Beauty Guide: Pink Lips

Photobucket

Even if you don't always agree with her fashion choices, you can't deny that Beyonce is a beautiful woman. Her makeup must be working overtime because event after event her face looks flawless.

At the recent Metropolitan Museum Gala, she wore dazzled on the red carpet with a golden glow and bright pink lip gloss. This is a great look not that can easily move from day to night.

Pink lips don't always have to be as dramatic as Beyonce's. I wear pink lipgloss when I'm looking to achieve a soft, natural look. In fact, I never thought of wearing it to a formal event until I saw this photo.

Caramel colored beauties can get away with wearing the more demure baby pinks on their pouts all the time, but cocoa bellas, like me, look lovely with more bronze infused pinks. It's a look that a bit more natural looking, but still light and fun.

Hair Inspiration of the Week: Cherish

I must be a beauty addict for real, because the first thing I noticed when I saw the video for the new single "Amnesia" from Cherish was the girls' gorgeous hair. The ladies are rocking some bomb styles for relaxed hair.

I'm sure they had their haistylist working overtime because each of the styles is unique and beautiful. I especially love the fishtail braid Felisha is rocking.

The Weave Challenge: Beyonce

Admit it, it's the question that we all ask when we see a black woman with hair down her back: is it real?

Beyonce has been known for rocking some of the best weaves (and lacefronts) in the game, but a few years back (during the Austin Powers ) she talked about how she stopped relaxing her hair in order to get her hair natural and healthy.

In this case, I'm really not sure. The texture of the hair certainly looks pretty natural, but the layers look a little bit off. So what do y'all think? Is Beyonce rocking the natural look, or is this another masterful weave?

Keep Shine Away With These Products

We're on the verge of the summer months, where the weather is downright hot and highly inconducive to maintaining a fabulous face full of makeup. Since I first began experimenting with makeup, I've been looking for ways to keep my extremely oily skin under control. Oil skin seems to of particular concern to many Black beauties, so I'll share a bit of knowledge that I've learned over the years. My mother, formerly a Mary Kay, beauty consultant introduced me to two great products that help keep my skin matte all day.

The first is Oil Control Lotion ($18).

It's to be applied right after you cleanse with astringent or toner and before you apply your makeup. The key to perfect application is patting the product on your face to insure equal application all over. In my experience it lasts for at least 5 hours, and it keeps makeup looking picture perfect all day.

I also carry Oil Mattifier ($15) for when I'm on the go.

In contrast to the Oil Control Lotion, this Oil Mattifier can be applied over makeup, so I use it in case of a shine emergency. Be advised: apply sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Try The Trend: White Eyeliner

So I'm sure a few of y'all are giving me the side eye right now, white eyeliner can look fabulous on black women.

Take for example Selita Ebanks...

Photobucket
I first heard of the miracle of white eyeliner from Tyra Banks on an episode of America's Next Top Model..or the Tyra Show (I really can't remember). and once I saw Selita rock it on the red carpet I knew it was perfect for Spring. It's playful and youthful, and the look really brightens her entire face.

If you're wary of applying dramatic or harsh line, try a white/pale gold shimmer on the inside corners of the eyes a la Tyra instead. This is a simple way to brighten your eyes making you appear more awake.

Hair Inspiration of the Week: LisaRaye

Photobucket

Guess who's ready for Spring? I certainly am, and so is one of black Hollywood's most fashionable starlets.

The bouncy spiral curls that LisaRaye was spotted rocking recently make for a playful warm weather do. With the right products it's a low maintenance style that can last for a couple of weeks.

TIPS:
When I'm setting curls, I like to use Motions Extra Firm Foaming Wrap Lotion. It keeps hair in place without making it crunchy and hard.

Motions at Home Salon Care Foaming Wrap Lotion, Extra Firm Hold

If you're a product junkie like me, and you're interested in experimenting. There's a great new product that can help you get beautiful spiral curls with a bit less effort. They're great for natural hair as well. Unfortunately curlformers are not available for purchase online. You have to get them from Sally's stores.
